The past years have laid bare many truths about our current model of capitalism — the severe income inequality and the belief that improving human lives and taking care of the environment are expendable for better profit margins. The changemakers in the growing Certified B Corporation community are demanding an end to the myth that profits must come at the expense of purpose, and environmental and social care. It’s time to wake up, it’s time for action.

At Blyde we believe in questioning the status quo. We believe in the power of the collective, in taking a stand and inspiring people by showing what can and must be changed. In our weekly Wake Up Calls, Blyde stirs up hunger for positive change. We listen to several B Corp voices who talk about their call to action for companies around the globe today. By letting people from different perspectives and businesses speak, we would like to underline the important role of business in this decade of action. ‘On stage’ today: changemaker Floor Meeder, founder of and sustainability strategist at Etiquet.

Etiquet is a sustainability studio that guides organisations in the creation of sustainability strategies and plans. Can you tell us more about your wake-up call for contributing to a better world?

There were plenty! The biggest was probably when I realized that I – myself – should be the wake-up call towards other companies. That’s at least when the plan for starting my own sustainability agency Etiquet got concrete. Now we inspire, confront ánd help improve companies on a daily basis and I love it!

What is your call to action for companies around the globe?

Define success differently. What really matters to you? Why do you enjoy business? That’s most often not to make money, but to make others happy or create value in some way. I believe that if you can focus more on the true meaning behind your business, good will come for all.

The Sustainable Development Goals are an important blueprint for making the necessary changes. Which of these Goals calls you the most and why?

For Etiquet: SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production). For me personally: SDG 10 (Reduce Inequalities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Because the current state of the world kind of scares the sh*t out of me.

Call me a changemaker, maximum change and no limitations: let’s fast-forward to 2030. What did you achieve?

With Etiquet, we want to have mobilized a sustainability team in 1% of small- to medium-sized enterprises by 2040. We believe people are the key to success in creating a sustainable future. By giving them a central rol, and educating them for as long is necessary, we hope to be out of business soon.

Etiquet has recently joined the B Corp community , congrats! If you could invite another company to join the B Corp community, which one would it be and why?

Just one? 🙂 Let’s make sure all companies worldwide embrace the B Corp philosophy and put value for people and planet first. Not because someone asks them to, but because they know they existence depends on it.
